Sr. Systems Engineer

Objective: Primary role is to manage the design, configuration, implementation, support and administration of Windows server infrastructure, VMWare virtualization environment, SAN and the core LeasePlan IT systems infrastructure.  The position is for a Senior Systems Engineer which requires extensive, hands-on Microsoft Server, VMware and SAN administration skills.  This individual will join a small, customer-service centric team with responsibility for infrastructure planning, server builds, upgrades, patches, backups and system/application performance monitoring and troubleshooting.   
Education and Experience:
Education: BS/BA in Computer Science, Business Information Systems or Business Administration with computer related minor, the technical equivalent of the bachelor's degree, or commensurate professional experience.
Experience: Minimum 5 years of experience performing the role of Windows Server administration, including:
  • Advanced Windows Server Administration experience
  • Strong experience working with Windows 2012
  • Windows Clustering
  • Knowledge and experience with IIS, Active Directory, DHCP, DNS, FTP & SMTP.
Minimum 5 years of experience of VMWare administration, including:
  • Significant experience in VMware vSphere 5.x
  • ESXi, vMotion, DRS, VMware HA, Clustering, Host Isolation, vCenter Server, Update Manager, vCOps 5.x, vROps 6.x and SRM
Minimum 3 years of experience of SAN administration, including:
  • Experience in an enterprise environment with high availability storage solutions.
  • Architecting and implementing storage & data management solutions.
Skills:  Good communication skills (verbal and written), logical and analytical thought process with proven system administration skills, aptitude to learn quickly and incorporate new technologies as needed, ability to work well independently or with a team, and the ability to effectively communicate within technical services and the customer community.
The candidate should be able to manage multiple assignments of varying complexity in a fast pace environment, with limited direction that ensure the security, integrity and availability of deployed applications.  Secondary role is to share responsibilities within the team, such as environment monitoring, management, administration, and support tasks, that provide redundancy of skills within the team.
Certifications (preferred):  Microsoft Certified Systems Engineer (MCSE), VMWare Certified Professional (VCPS)
Specific responsibilities include:
·      Design, configure and perform daily administration and support of Windows Server environment.
·      Design, configure and perform daily administration and support of VMWare virtualization environment.
·      Perform day-to-day break-fix, troubleshooting Windows related issues, performance issues, etc.
·      Assist with configuring fibre channel multipathing on VMware and Windows hosts.
·      Maintain Windows best practices, anti-virus, and patch management including firmware upgrades
·      Provide Windows monitoring and reporting solutions.
·      Provide Active Directory and Group policy management and support
·      Manage domain, user/computer objects, accounts, and permissions
·      Ensures software licenses are current and compliance with licensing laws.
·      Evaluate new technologies and recommend future direction of Windows infrastructure.
·      Support corporate system audits by maintaining accurate, comprehensive documentation and providing timely responses to requests
·      Provide written documentation for team processes and service continuity plans (Disaster Recovery).
·      Support Change Management process by adhering to guidelines and providing proper documentation
·      Comply at all times with Policies and Standards.
·      Develop and implement policies and procedures for the management of Windows infrastructure and SAN environment.
·      Perform daily system monitoring, verifying the integrity and availability of all hardware, server resources, systems and key processes, reviewing system and application logs, and verifying completion of scheduled jobs such as backups.
·      Assist with the maintenance of HTTP servers on Wintel infrastructure.
  • Assist application development teams with performance testing of application software including use of JMeter.
  • Develop and maintain all applicable documentation pertaining to system configuration and application interfaces.
  • Train and assist other department personnel.
  • Respond to on call emergencies pertaining to Windows servers, VMWare and SAN as needed.
  • Research and implement problem resolutions in a timely and effective manner.
  • Confer with technical leads, architects and management regarding Windows performance and capacity planning.
  • Provides Tier II/III level technical customer support, answering complex questions on function and usage of products.
  • Participate in disaster recovery testing to verify the Disaster Recovery plan.
  • Provide advanced technical support for PC’s , servers and network infrastructure associated with Windows Server infrastructure.
  • Lead troubleshooting of internal and client related access issues.
  • System administrator of operating systems and storage infrastructure.
  • Install and maintain SSL Certificates.
  • Continually strive for technology and process improvement in order to maximize the IT infrastructure investments.
  • Research and recommend infrastructure toolsets as required to meet reasonable governance and ease of use of environment.
  • Communicate with co-workers, team members, management, clients and others in a courteous and professional manner.
  • Conform with and abide by all regulations, policies, work procedures and instructions.
